An Open Letter to Joel Osteen

To Joel Osteen,

In your recent interview with Wolf Blitzer, you said you accepted Mormons as brothers.  You said, when you hear them say Jesus is their savior, when you hear them say they believe in the Son of God, that is good enough for you.

The question I ask you is, What does it matter what is good enough for you?  You profess to be a shepherd of the church and a representative of Christ.  The question you should ask is, What is good enough for God?  Is it good enough for God if a person believes and teaches that there are an infinite number of gods throughout the universe?  That the "god" of our planet once lived on another planet as a mortal man?  That the Father and the Son are two distinct gods?

Is it good enough for God if a person believes Jesus was not born of a virgin?  If they believe in a god they created and a fantastic story that he had sex with Mary and conceived Jesus?  Is that good enough for God, for people to believe such mythology and call it Christian faith?

Is it good enough for God that Mormons use  words like "accepting Christ as Savior" but they give a whole new meaning to "Christ" and "God?"  Is it good enough for God that they believe the Father-God has a father, and a grandfather, and great-grandfather, etc?  That He is not Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End?  That He is merely one god among a Mormon pantheon of gods?  Is it good enough for God for a person to believe that and then claim to be a worshipper of the true and living God revealed in the Bible?

You admitted that Mormonism isn't "traditional Christianity" but said you want to be inclusive and not push anyone away.  The question is, Away from what?  Are they in the Christian faith?  No , they are lost and perishing in their foolish mythology!  And you should be telling them so!  How will they ever turn to the true God and be saved unless they know they are lost?

The god of Mormonism is not the God made known to us through the Word of God, the Bible.  The god of the Mormons is a fantasy-god created by Joseph Smith, the founder of their cult.

This is God's Word to you Joel Osteen:  "If someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough!" 2Cor 11:4

"But they are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.  And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." 2Cor 11:13-14

The Mormons need the true gospel - to come to the true God.  They need to be told the truth!  No one comes to the true God and eternal life except through the true, living Jesus Christ.

From Ezekiel 13

The word of the Lord came to me, Son of man, prophesy against the prophets who prophesy out of their own imagination. Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!  Say to them, You have not gone up to the breaks in the wall to repair it so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the Lord!  Your visions are false! You say, "The Lord declares," when the Lord has not sent you.

Because of your false words I am against you, declares the Lord. Because you lead My people astray, saying, "Peace" when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, you cover it with whitewash.  Tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall!  Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.

In My wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in My anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it.  Then you will know that I am the Lord.

I will spend My wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash, those prophets who prophesied peace when there was no peace.

You have profaned Me among My people for a few scraps of bread.  By lying to My people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live.  I will set free the people that you ensnare like birds.  I will save My people from your hands and they will no longer fall prey to your power. You will know that I am the Lord!

Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives, you will no longer see false visions. I will save My people from your hands. And then you will know that I am the Lord!
